Veterinary Nurse

The veterinary nurse has many important responsibilities and plays many roles within the hospital. They apply their professional skills in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory testing, patient nursing, and client education.

The vet nurse is routinely entrusted with patient assessments, anesthesia, procedures, and treatments. The vet nurse must be a detail-oriented person who can make good decisions, respond quickly and calmly to crises, and maintain high standards of patient care. Vet nurses need to communicate clearly with the doctors, other hospital personnel, and clients to ensure that patients receive the care that they need.

The veterinary nurse candidate needs to be committed to providing the best possible care and service to pets and their people. As well as someone who has a strong calling to improve the human-animal bond and help those with no voice of their own. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Veterinary Nurse

  • Saphenous, cephalic, and jugular venipuncture
  • Ultrasound-guided cystocentesis
  • Intravenous catheter placement
  • Surgical nurse duties: pre-medication administration, induction, intubation, extubation, anesthesia monitoring, and maintenance, post-surgery care, etc.
  • Basic kennel duties
  • Basic hospital cleaning duties
  • Cross-training with front desk skills
  • Client education
  • Becoming proficient in Low-Stress Handling and Fear Free techniques
  • Cold Laser Therapy

Experience is necessary to fulfill this position.

This position includes 35-40 hours per week, weekends and holidays are required on a scheduled rotation.
